Salman Anees Soz, the leader of the Congress, responded to Himanta Biswa Sarma’s assertion that all delegates who exercised guts by voting for Shashi Tharoor are anticipated to join the BJP shortly.
Congress leader Salman Anees Soz hit back at BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remark on the grand old party’s internal polls and its ‘courageous’ leaders making a beeline for the saffron camp.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was a Congress veteran before switching to the BJP, said, “In Congress’ so-called internal elections, the result was known and declared even before the counting of votes. The only democratic people in Congress were the 1,000 delegates who showed courage by voting for Shashi Tharoor. I expect them to join the BJP soon.”
Salman Anees Soz answered by saying the BJP has too many bigots, cowards, and opportunists among its ranks and he would never join the saffron party. Salman Anees Soz was one of the delegates who participated in the internal elections and was also Tharoor’s election agent.
“I was one of 1072 delegates who voted for Shashi Tharoor in the Congress elections. We lost but internal party democracy won. If BJP was the only party left, I wouldn’t join it. It has too many bigots, cowards, and opportunists for my taste,” he said in a tweet.
Earlier, Shashi Tharoor, who had lost the race for the top party post, had said those who show courage will never join the BJP. It is those who do not have the courage to fight who might be tempted to do so, he had said.
