Gigi Hadid said on Instagram today that she will be giving up all of her earnings from fashion month to help Ukraine, which is presently being aggressively invaded by Russian forces acting on President Vladimir Putin’s orders. The model has been a regular on catwalks for the past several weeks, walking for major autumn 2022 collections by Michael Kors, Versace, Vivienne Westwood, and many more.
“Having a set fashion month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” wrote Hadid.
We would like to walk “for” something, yet the majority of our job schedules are beyond of our control. I am promising to contribute my profits from the autumn 2022 shows to help people affected by the war in Ukraine and to continue to assist those going through the same in Palestine, following in the footsteps of my friend [and fellow model] @micarganaraz.
This month, the fashion industry has made several attempts to use its platform to raise awareness of the critical situation in Ukraine.
Ukrainian artists like model Eugenia Dubinov and Bevza designer Svitlana Bevza have both revealed their own stories from Kyiv. Designer Demna Gvasalia, wearing blue and yellow, devoted his Balenciaga presentation to the fortitude of Ukrainians. Major stores and brands including Net-a-Porter, Nike, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton have completely stopped exporting to Russia. Hadid and Argaaraz are going a step further in expressing their support by giving away whatever money they have been given during this period.
