Cam’ron has always been a force in hip-hop, hailing from Harlem and leading New York’s influential scene in the 2000s. While one might expect him to champion his hometown’s lyrical prowess, the rapper surprised fans with a bold statement on a recent episode of It Is What It Is. Instead of praising New York, Cam’ron highlighted Chicago and Louisiana as the homes of the best rap lyricists.

During a discussion with Mase, Cam’ron emphasized his point about the Windy City’s lyrical talent. “They may have the best lyricists,” he suggested, adding Louisiana to the mix. This declaration came with a critique of the East Coast’s past elitism. Reflecting on the attitudes of the 80s and 90s, he mentioned how New York rappers would dismiss other regions, citing Lil Wayne as a prime example. “You get on a record with Lil Wayne, you gotta be careful,” Cam’ron noted, further comparing Wayne’s lyrical skill with Eminem’s.

Cam’ron’s praise for Lil Wayne and Chicago artists aligns with his history of collaboration. Dipset was among the first to recognize Wayne’s talent, working with him before his mainstream breakthrough with Tha Carter III. Cam’ron also collaborated with Kanye West during his early rap career, contributing to West’s second album and featuring tracks produced by West on Purple Haze.

Despite his praise for other regions, Cam’ron has been critical of New York recently. Having relocated to Las Vegas, he shared his disdain for New York’s conditions on Instagram Live, citing issues like the city’s rat problem as reasons for his move. Cam’ron seems to be embracing his new life in the desert, making headlines with his unconventional attire at a Fourth of July party.

In a world where regional pride often dictates conversations about hip-hop, Cam’ron’s perspective offers a refreshing take on where rap’s lyrical excellence truly shines.
