Apple Music lists the top songs for 2022.

THE NEW YORK As Apple Music issued its end-of-year rankings and gave users information on their own most-listened-to songs, “Stay,” the big single by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, topped the global song chart in 2022.

The song “Stay,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks this summer, peaked at No. 1 on Apple Music’s ranking of the top 100 worldwide songs for 51 days in a row. “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” by Elton John and Dua Lipa peaked at No. 1 on the streamer’s Shazam list, while “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the movie musical “Encanto” was the song whose lyrics were read the most on the platform in 2022.

“As It Was” by Harry Styles, “Wait For U” by Future ft. Drake and Tems, “Super Gremlin” by Kodak Black, “Easy on Me” by Adele, and “Heat Wave” by Glass Animals joined “Stay” at the top of the worldwide songs list. Hip-hop maintained its position as the genre with the most songs in the worldwide top 100, with 32, followed by pop with 23 and R&B/soul in third with 11.

The data demonstrates the increasing popularity of music in languages other than English. African songs are becoming more popular on the Shazam list as well as the global daily 100, while Japanese songs have seen significant growth on the most-read lyrics chart.

According to Rachel Newman, global head of editorial, “it’s really the emergence of what were formerly relatively specialist genres moving into the mainstream, which is an exciting new trend on the platform.”

More than twice as many songs from other languages—21—were included in the worldwide Top 100 this year. In 2022, 55 Latin songs made it into the Global Daily Top 100, an increase of 22% from 2021. Six of the 50 J-pop songs that made it to the top of the chart in 2022, compared to none the previous year, ranked in the top 10.

Tuesday, the streamer started informing customers that Apple Music Replay was prepared. Users may view and hear their top songs, albums, artists, and playlists from the previous year as well as their total service minutes using this function. Superfans may now check to see whether they are among the top 100 listeners of their preferred artist or genre.

Apple’s Replay playlist, which competes with Spotify’s Wrapped playlist, has been updated with modern, elegant features and made to be shared on TikTok and Instagram. Listeners may check the charts at any moment to see how their music is doing because they are updated throughout the year. A threshold of plays and listening time determine eligibility.

Due in significant part to the success of his most recent album, “Un Verano Sin Ti,” which became Apple Music’s most played album of 2022 and its largest Latin album of all time, the Puerto Rican reggaeton sensation Bad Bunny was named Artist of the Year by the streaming service in November.

In October, Apple Music recorded its 100 millionth song for the streaming service, marking a significant milestone in the company’s own successful year of 2022. That surpasses the 80 million songs on YouTube Music, the 82 million tracks and podcasts on Spotify, and the 90 million songs on Amazon Music.

According to Newman, “one hundred million songs for us is incredibly significant because I believe it is such a tremendous indication of just how broad and vast the music industry is these days.” It is the most extensive and varied collection of music in any medium ever assembled, which is just remarkable.

The top songs of 2022 were also published on Tuesday by the streaming service Pandora, with “Wait For U” topping the list. With five tracks, Bad Bunny had the most songs in the top 100.
