Jim Carrey, a multi-talented actor and painter, has released Goon In Moonlight, his second non-fungible token (NFT) artwork. On the digital art marketplace SuperRare, bidding starts on Tuesday and continues through Thursday.
A portion of the sale will benefit World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organisation founded in 2012 by celebrity chef José Andrés to provide meals in the wake of natural disasters, with a fund cost of $50,000.
A multimedia piece, Goon in Moonlight, combines Carrey’s talents in writing, voice acting, computer animation, sketching, and painting.
After coining the NFT on Monday, Carrey said, “In the inevitable romanticism of moonlight, the Goon is condemned to withdraw from recollections of failed loves and the anguish of humiliation that may change any one of us into something vile in our minds.
The 60-year-old Carrey has acted in several movies throughout the course of his career, including The Truman Show (1998), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003), and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).
Carrey has focused more on his long-standing artistic pursuits of painting and sketching during the past ten years. In the 2017 short film Jim Carrey: I Needed Color, he discussed his passion of art and many incidents.
Carrey released his first NFT, Sunshower, on extremely rare in June. The digital piece of art was created in association with director David Bushell and was based on his similar-titled oil painting.
With 21 bids, it sold for about $105,000 (62.04 Ethereum), with the proceeds going to Feeding America, a charity with a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks. The buyer is a creator, animator, and administrator from South Korea who resides in New York and goes by the handle @deekaymotion in the metaverse.
